Frequently Asked Questions

What is medical weight loss?

Medical weight loss is a provider-guided approach to weight management. Instead of following a one-size-fits-all diet or commercial program, your provider considers your health history, medications, weight-related concerns, previous weight-loss efforts, and goals to develop an individualized plan.

Do you offer semaglutide or tirzepatide for weight loss?

Yes. Semaglutide or tirzepatide may be considered for appropriate patients following a medical evaluation. A prescription is not guaranteed, and the medication selected depends on your health history, contraindications, treatment goals, medication availability, and your provider's clinical judgment.

Who qualifies for GLP-1 weight-loss treatment?

Eligibility is individualized. Your provider will review factors such as your BMI, medical history, weight-related health conditions, current medications, previous weight-loss attempts, and potential contraindications before recommending treatment.

Do I need blood work before starting?

Not everyone requires the same testing. Your provider will review your medical history and any recent laboratory results and determine whether additional testing is needed. A CMP may be requested when clinically appropriate. Additional laboratory testing is billed separately when required.

Can I receive medical weight-loss care through telehealth?

Yes. Eligible Ohio patients may be able to complete medical weight-loss consultations and follow-up visits through telehealth. In-person care is also available through NextDoor Urgent Care when appropriate.

How often will I need follow-up visits?

Follow-up is individualized based on your treatment plan, medication, response to therapy, and any side effects. Follow-up allows your provider to monitor progress and adjust treatment when appropriate.

What are common side effects of GLP-1 medications?

Common side effects can include nausea, decreased appetite, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal discomfort. Your provider will review important risks, contraindications, and what symptoms require medical attention before treatment.

Is medication required to participate in medical weight loss?

No. Medical weight management is individualized. Medication may be recommended when medically appropriate, but treatment may also include nutrition, physical activity, behavioral changes, and management of health factors that can affect weight.

Does insurance cover medical weight-loss treatment or GLP-1 medications?

Coverage varies significantly by insurance plan and medication. Patients should verify medication coverage directly with their insurer. Self-pay options may also be available.

How much weight can I expect to lose with GLP-1 treatment?

Results vary considerably from person to person and depend on factors including medication response, treatment duration, nutrition, physical activity, underlying health conditions, and adherence to the treatment plan. We do not guarantee a specific amount or rate of weight loss.
